In this course, we will embark on an exciting journey, exploring the fascinating world of matter that surrounds us. Day 1: What is Matter? Exploring the State of Matter We will investigate solids, liquids, and gases and learn about condensing, melting, and freezing. Students will be exposed to many new concepts of chemistry and physical science: solids, liquids, gases, physical changes, observation, physical properties, chemical changes, elements, molecules, and compounds.
Lesson 1 Paper, pencil, crayons, or colored pencils Optional: Ice and plastic sandwich bag Lesson 2 Lemonade: Tablespoons granulated sugar, 1/4 cup hot water. 3 tablespoons lemon juice and 3/4 cup cold water Optional: Group of different types of coins, a small amount of snack mix, or salad with other veggies. We will model separating them into groups, such as any group of various objects. Lesson 3 Paper, pencil, a small amount of salt and sugar Optional: magnifying glass Lesson 4 Mini marshmallows (the colorful ones if you can find them), toothpicks, baking soda 2 tbsps, ½ cup of vinegar, 20 oz soda bottle or similar bottle, balloon, and funnel.
