Class Experience
In this class, your child can watch and/or make a lava lamp along with me. We will review vocabulary words like ‘density’ and ‘mass’. Materials needed: Small clear glass cup Canola oil Water Food coloring Alka seltzer tab We will start the lesson with an introduction. We will preview our materials. We will discuss vocabulary words and I’ll use everyday items to help kids understand the word. Ie: using puff balls and a glass for density. We will predict, as scientists, what will...
Students will understand how to act and work as a scientist. We will go through the actions of predicting, observing, and collecting data. We will review and learn vocabulary words such as density and mass. Students will know that oil and water do not mix and we will explain why through the experience.
As scientists, we pose questions. I would encourage your child to experiment this particular lava lamp experiment using different liquids and see what remains true with what we learned.
Small clear glass cup Canola oil (about 1 cup) Water (1/2 cup) Food coloring (1 color) Alka seltzer tab (broken into fourths)
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
