1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. It's time-consuming to cut out the pieces. To make the most of class time, I will ask the learners to spend 15 - 20 minutes before class cutting out the pieces for the projects.Class Experience
In this one-time class learners will be creating a garden gate for a dollhouse. PLEASE NOTE: Some pre-class preparation is necessary. So that class time will be more productive, please gather the necessary supplies, print the pattern, and cut out the pattern pieces before class. I will model step-by-step procedures for assembling the gate, and give some suggestions for adding decorative details. The learners will make their pieces unique by choosing their own color scheme and embellishments. Learners will have the opportunity at the end of each class to share their creations. The basic structure will be mostly made from craft sticks. Learners will also need scissors or a utility knife; a low temperature glue gun and glue sticks; a ruler; a pencil; paint; a paintbrush; a small, deep cap (like the cap from a glue stick); a handful of fiberfill; 18 craft sticks; 3 toothpicks; 12 green pipe cleaners; enough small beads to cover the length of the toothpick; a small piece of thin cardboard (like a cereal box); and a few very small, artificial flowers (or some tissue paper and a couple pipe cleaners). The pattern will be posted in the classroom. Learners will need enough dexterity to manipulate small pieces into place. Some basic craft skills, such as cutting, gluing, and painting are necessary. The classroom environment is fun and relaxed. The learners are encouraged to chat while they create.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Bay Path College
Hi. My name is Debbie Byers.
I earned a Bachelor's degree from Bay Path University, and I also have a TESOL certificate.
I've worked with children for many years. For six years, I home-schooled my four children in elementary-level math, science, language arts, and social studies. I also led group lessons for all the children in our home-school circle.
As a Daisy and Girl Scout leader, I taught science, sewing, crafts, good citizenship, social skills, and life skills to girls ages four to twelve.
I worked for Literacy Volunteers for several years, teaching English as a second language, and I'm also currently an online ESL instructor.
For three years I worked as a home visitor, helping families prepare their children for kindergarten. Another responsibility of this job involved designing classes and activities to encourage school engagement and to teach good character to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. These courses encompassed various topics from STEM and fitness to community service.
For the past eight years I've been employed in the public school system. I've taught children in all grades from preschool through twelfth grade, but the majority of my teaching has been with kindergartners and preschoolers.
Learning should be fun and engaging! I believe all children have special gifts and talents and it's a teacher's job to inspire children to discover their passion and develop their strengths.
I can't wait to see your child in the classroom!
