Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
In this one-time class students will be shown multiple division strategies. Students will be shown how to complete division using partial quotients strategy and standard algorithm. Class will be taught using an I Do, We Do, You Do method where the teacher will demonstrate the strategy, then students will walk the teacher through the strategy and last they will complete the strategy on their own. The first part of class students will play a flash facts game to assess the ability level of the crowd. In the next part of class the teacher will begin by showing the partial products strategy of division. After watching the teacher students will assist the teacher in solving another problem and then complete some practice problems on their own. After students have been given time to complete problems we will move into standard algorithm. Teacher will demonstrate standard algorithm showing students how it connects to partial quotients, then students will walk the teacher through a problem and finally they will complete practice problems on their own. Teacher will demonstrate a problem using single digit divisors and double digit divisors. Teacher will post an optional extended practice worksheet in the classroom for students that need more practice. Students will guide the speed and progression of the class by their understanding of each concept.

Now offering private tutoring in all subjects through 1 on 1 30 minute ongoing sessions. Also available for one time homework help just send me a message to get it set up. 23 Years! I have been teaching 3-5th grade for 21 years and 8th grade science for the last three years. I am passionate about connecting the real world to what students are learning in the classroom with their interests and hobbies. I teach classes that reinforce skills in math through games and discussions, book clubs for those lovers of books, hands on inquiry lessons in science and real world experiences. Math games focus on fractions, multiplication and division. Book clubs will involve outside reading, in depth discussions during our class time, and hands on projects to make connections. Real world experience classes focusing on creating a budget for a vacation, and creating schedules to allow for time management. I am the teacher that relates your learning to your life. My three top interests outside of school are Disney, long distance running and Harry Potter. I have been long distance running for 15 years and of course bringing my two interests together I run at Disney! I can't wait to get to know your student.
