My favorite part of teaching at this age range is watching kids get excited about what they're reading, and the conversations and connections they make through the books. I bring humor and patience with me in my teacher bag of tricks, and hold students to high expectations. I am available anytime by email if there's any questions.
Students will be expected to read pre-determined chapters (trying to avoid reading ahead, if possible) and prepare thoughtful responses to 1-2 guiding questions for each meeting. If a student misses a session they are asked to review the class video and post a comment to the class page if we missed anything they wanted to share.
Students will need: 1 personal copy (purchase or library) of "Out of My Mind" by Sharon Draper Post-It style notepad Pencil I will provide session guiding questions in a google doc for your convenience
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
- Kahoot
- Google Docs
I will keep a record of comprehension, engagement and interaction. I will be happy to share notes with parents after class if students are working to improve comprehension grades for other classes or teachers, please email me with your interest.
2 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
I always recommend that parents get an idea of the book's main topics through the website www.commonsensemedia.org.
