In this three week book club we will read and discuss the dystopian book Divergent by Veronica Roth.

If you are a fan of dystopian books like The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner, then you will love the Divergent series! Divergent tells the story of a dystopian world where people live in factions, each centering around one particular virtue that dictates the way they live their lives. In this book we will follow Beatrice Prior as she turns 16, decides on her faction, and makes a life within the faction. Students will engage in book group discussions each week. Through these discussions we will work on comprehension skills, analyzing the characters and their actions, making connections, discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book, and comparing and contrasting different characters and events.
I am a licensed school librarian with a love of dystopian young adult books! I have lead book groups and discussions with students across a wide variety of age groups.
Homework Offered
Students are expected to have the reading completed before each class period. There will be about 80 pages for students to read before each class. Class 1: Chapters 1-7 Class 2: Chapters 8-12 Class 3: Chapters 13-18 Class 4: Chapters 19-24 Class 5: Chapters 25-31 Class 6: Chapters 32-392 - 4 hours per week outside of class
