Class Experience

At Hub of Curiosity, diversity is celebrated, and every learner’s unique journey is embraced.

Our social group offers a supportive and engaging environment where neurodivergent kids and teens can connect, explore their interests, and create lasting memories with their peers, contributing to their overall happiness and well-being. Our sessions are moderated by experienced educators who aid in steering the conversation and initiating connections, where needed. However, our learners are the primary leaders of our gatherings.

Many of our sessions begin with week-in-review updates shared by participants and an ice breaker to welcome new participants. After that it is time for fun and games! Learners will have the option to choose from the games below or suggest other ideas for a meaningful and fun session.

Game options can include:
Scavenger hunt
Twenty questions
Would you rather?
Snowman (like Hangman, but less sinister)
Skribble
Kahoot trivia
Mad Libs
Guess Who?
Two truths and a lie
Bingo
Charades

What benefits do learners derive from joining our social clubs?
- Sense of belonging: Being part of a social club gives kids and teens a sense of belonging and community, where they can connect with others who share similar interests, experiences, or challenges.
- Moral Support: Social clubs often provide a safe space where kids and teens can express themselves, share their feelings, and receive compassionate support from their peers.
- Skill Development: Participating in club activities can help kids and teens develop a wide range of skills, such as communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Increased Confidence: Through positive interactions and experiences in the club, kids and teens can boost their self-esteem and confidence, gaining a sense of accomplishment and pride in their abilities.
- Diverse Perspectives: Being part of a social club exposes kids and teens to diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences, fostering empathy, tolerance, and appreciation for differences.

Teacher Lili (she/her):
Lili’s current homeschooling class-of-one is exceptionally lucky to have such a dedicated teacher all to herself. Lili, an ADHD adult, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Elementary Education in the Dominican Republic before later earning her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She brings to our classroom years of experience in a variety of classroom settings, including a dual-language immersion middle school program. Lili’s learners can expect her to cheer their successes and support them through their struggles. She’s passionate about interest-led learning and loves to dive into a unit study!

Teacher Kate (she/her):
Kate is an ADHD adult who is an accomplished film-maker and passionate bookworm. She has taught learners between the ages of 2 and 15 abroad in both Germany and Japan. Kate has a wide foundation of teaching experience from teaching middle schoolers to teaching English as a second language in Tokyo. She varies her teaching style to meet learners where they are and modulates her approach to suit all neurotypes. She brings a sense of calm to the classroom that provides an ideal environment for learners to thrive. Her teaching style is clear, passionate, and supportive.

Hannah (she/they) began her teaching journey in 2014 with Austin ISD, where she initially focused on afterschool academics. Their role involved teaching English at the elementary school level, specifically geared toward preparing students for the STAAR standardized test. As Hannah's experience grew, they expanded their teaching repertoire to include math instruction and developed their own curriculum for art.

Tiffany (she/her) brings to our Hub of Curiosity classrooms an incredible and varied background in education. Before joining us, she led ESL classes aboard an Around-the-World NGO cruise and taught upper-low income students in the USA, Tiffany blends creativity with intellectually stimulating journeys in her teaching style. Her open neurodivergent outlook on life and education, as a whole, empowers her to foster connections with students from diverse backgrounds and tailor lessons to each individual need. Tiffany has a B.A. in English with a concentration in Grammar/Linguistics, is certified in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and is a certified TESOL/TEFL teacher.
