What's included

30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Get your dancing shoes ready! In this ongoing class we will go through the foundations of ballet for very beginners through fun and easy exercises. We will start the class by getting to know each other with introductions and an icebreaker, and then move into fun activities for warm-up and stretches. Then, we will get into some ballet basics and creative movement activities. Some weeks will be focused on the different ballet positions, others on jumps, turns and pliers. Participants do not need to attend the previous class in order to be able to do the next one as the activities will be easy to follow. Activities will be taught with examples, creativity and Disney-inspired storytelling. This class will focus on getting used to moving our bodies in a way that feels safe and fun for little ones! Throughout the class we will be learning ballet with our favourite Disney songs. Participants are encouraged to sing-along and wear clothing that is comfortable and that they can move freely in. Costumes are welcome! We will be stretching in class, however stretching beforehand is recommended. Participants are also encouraged to bring some water to class, and make sure there is enough room to move around. No previous dance experience necessary. Caretakers: please stand-by the class as I will ask the participants questions and I will need you to help unmute our dancers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Maya Golis. I have my Bachelor's of Arts in International Development from the University of Toronto. I am currently certified to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) and High-Five (Five Principles of Healthy Child Development). I have also been trained in disseminating mindfulness-based workshops to children by Merrymount Children's Center in London, ON. I am working towards my Master's degree in Education.
I have been teaching dance and theatre classes to children for over 10 years, with theatre companies such as Original Kids and extra-curricular programs with the City of London, ON. I truly learned the importance of arts-based education when I completed my internship at El Colegio del Cuerpo, a dance foundation in Cartagena, Colombia that aims to nurture artistic development in all of its students and professional dancers. I like to bring this experience to the classroom and infuse arts-based education and creativity into all of my classes. I have also been creating specialized classes for students with the company Tutor Doctor, most notably English classes for students with a variety of abilities and needs. I have been teaching ESL online for the past year, and have experience working with children ages 3-17 years old.
I love teaching! I think it's important to nurture a student's creativity and build their confidence so that they can not only learn and absorb content better, but also be an active agent in their personal development. I think creativity is an important tool and method, and I try to incorporate it in all of my classes. I can't wait to meet you! See you in the classroom.
