Music

Beginner piano students will learn ten Disney songs during this 12-week asynchronous course! Tutorial and demo videos will walk students through each song. Students may record themselves and submit videos for teacher comments and critique. 

Learn to play 10 Disney songs on the piano or keyboard! You'll learn one song each week! I will also post a demo video for each song that you can watch over and over. Make your own video to send to me for feedback!

Beginning students will learn the music alphabet A-G. We will learn the white key piano key names, and the black key sharps and flats. This lesson may be skipped if students are comfortable with the subject and don't need the review.

Review - things to know first!

Students will learn/review the different types of notes and their value. We will practice playing and counting. Students may skip this lesson if they have a solid understanding of note value.

Note Values

Our fingers are assigned numbers in music. Students will review these or learn them if it's a brand new concept.

Hands and Fingers

Welcome from the teacher. Student will learn how to play this song from "The Lion King." We will break it down measure-by-measure. Teacher will review note values, hand position changes, flats, accented notes and provide a demonstration of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.

Students will learn this theme song from Walt Disney World attractions. We will review the C 5-finger scale position for both hands. Learn or review staccato notes and note values. Teacher will provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.

Students will learn this song from "Mary Poppins." We will learn flats and sharps and review skips and steps, as well as review note names and values. Teacher will provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.

We will learn to play this song from "The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh." We will learn to play sharps and practice crossing over with the left hand. We will review note names and note values. Teacher will provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.


Winnie-the-Pooh

Students will learn to play this song from "Lady and the Tramp." We will review the C 5-finger scales and practice playing two notes at the same time in the left hand. We will also learn/review how to play staccato notes. Teacher will provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.


Siamese Cat Song

Students will learn to play this beautiful song from "Tangled." We will learn a couple of notes outside of the C 5-finger scale. Students will learn to play two notes at the same time in the right hand. We will review note names and note values. Teacher will demonstrate the hand position changes and provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.


I See the Light

We will learn this popular song from "Frozen." We will learn/review how to "tie" notes. Students will learn the meaning of "melody" and "harmony." We will review the standard C 5-finger scales and note values. Teacher will provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Students will learn this song from "The Aristocats." We will discuss how to play a song using only treble clef notes, and learn the meaning of scales and arpeggios. Teacher will provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.


Scales and Arpeggios

Students will learn this fun song from "Mary Poppins." We will learn/review note names, values, flats and how to use the repeat sign. Students will learn to play three notes together. Teacher will provide a demo of the song. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.


Step in Time

This bonus song is from "The Little Mermaid." Teacher will provide the sheet music and demonstrate how to play it. We will review ties, note names, note values and learn about the fermata. Students are encouraged to record themselves playing and send it to the teacher for feedback.


Part of Your World

We will review all of the Disney songs covered in this class. Students should provide a recording of their favorite song from the book. This is a requirement in order to receive a certificate of completion. Videos can be posted on the learner page and teacher will review and provide critique and praise!
