Class Experience

Each class will feature a different title in the Disney Library. I will endeavor to feature titles available on Disney Plus to create an ease of accessibility. Titles will be announced at the end of each class, and posted in the classroom. If you are just joining us you can message the instructor to know which title we'll be discussing in class!

During class we will discuss our favorite moments from the movie (or show). We will also play a Kahoot trivia game, and complete multiple art projects including our own collectible paper patches.

Learners will need a second device to play kahoot. The questions will be shared on the screen through the Outschool class and the answers need to be submitted on a SECOND DEVICE. This can be a smart phone, tablet, or any device with a web browser.

Our discussions will examine story structure and character development. We will also develop active listening skills as we practice having equal and productive conversations.

Each week we will make a simple art project. This will usually be a drawing tutorial so we can learn to doodle our favorite characters!

We will play fun games too. Each week I will create a Kahoot trivia game tailored to our theme.

We will finish each meeting by creating a paper patch using our title theme. Students will be able to collect their patches from week to week.

Week of 10//19 we will be discussing Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast
We will learn to draw Tinkerbell, and quick doodles of pixie dust. We will also discuss character reactions to the story of the Neverbeast.
 Our patch will feature Tinkerbell
Week of 10/26 we will be discussing The Little Mermaid
We will learn to draw Ariel. We will also be discussing character choices. Our patch will feature Ariel's signature colors.
Week of 11/2 we will be discussing The Lion King
We will learn to draw Pumba. We will also be comparing Scar with the Hyena pack in regards to what makes each of them villainous. Our patch will be inspired by Raffiki's drawing of baby Simba.
Week of 11/9 we will be discussing Mulan
We will learn to draw Mushu. We will also be discussing the terms 'tear jerker' and 'all choked up' by cataloging the different ways this movie hits us in the feelings. Our patch feature Mulan's signature colors.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm an avid reader, and an author.
I was never so surprised in all my life as when my son told me he "just wasn't into reading" and that he thought "writing was the worst part of school." I had to think quick before he missed out on all the magic that I knew was waiting for him within the pages of books.
And so family book club was born. And then books and friends, and soon my house was overflowing with reluctant readers bouncing up and down and waiting desperately to tell Miss Tammi all their favorite bits from last week's reading.
I have spent ten years coaxing children into eager readers and confident writers. I love to watch those smiles light up when they realize there is a whole hidden world inside of books. In that world they never need to try to fit in, or please other people. In that world they are welcomed, they are wanted, and they are inspired.
