What's included

30 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
Students will want to familiarize themselves with the topic of the week before the club meets. This topic will be agreed upon at the end of each class and be posted in the class description for new students. I will be sure to share any necessary information to give students the full opportunity to get prepared!

Class Experience

On October 16th we'll discuss the differences between Disneyland and Disney World!

In this ongoing, drop in club we will learn about and discuss a different aspect of Disney each week. This may include our favorite Disney movies & tv shows, learning about the history Disney and its founders, debating things we wish Disney would do differently, and more! Use code MORGANT5 for $5 off your first class!

Students will be given options to vote on and choose topic at the end of each class so they can gather materials (if it's a show and tell kind of a week!) or come with ideas in preparation of the following class. That week's topic will be listed in the class description below for new students to check out! While I will offer students context for the topic (if necessary) and key background information, as well as discussion questions to get the chat started, it will be a student-driven experience and their interests will inform where the discussion goes. These discussion questions might include: "Why is this movie our favorite?" "What is unique about this particular Disney ride when compared to others?" and/or "Why do we love to collect pins in Disney?" From there, students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts/feelings/questions about the topic and collaborate with others to learn more.

This club is an opportunity for students to learn more about a variety of Disney topics and talk all about their favorite experiences while developing relationships with other students with a similar interest.
Learning Goals
Each week students will learn more about a different Disney topic and have the chance to talk about their favorite experiences. Students will also develop their communication and discussion skills with other students and have a safe, supportive space to share their ideas.

Parental Guidance
Our chats will always be kept appropriate for the classroom setting. I will begin each chat by reminding students that they are free to share but should refrain from sharing things they would be uncomfortable saying in front of their families. I encourage parents/guardians to review the topic we are discussing to confirm you are comfortable with your student participating in the conversation. Each family will have their own comfort levels about what their student can discuss, and I invite you to reach out to me with any specific questions/concerns or skip weeks that you feel are not appropriate for your student.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a professional musical theatre actor and teaching artist, and lifelong Disney fan, I am eager to bring this club to students to discuss their favorite aspects of Disney. I have worked as a teaching artist with this age group for several years and value my students' interest in discussing the movies/tv shows we explore and their questions about the material. I also value students sharing experiences with Disney that they have enjoyed and also were not as excited about to encourage critical thinking, even about the things we love most. I believe that having discussions about the media we consume help us to process the themes and messages of that media, making us think while also giving us the opportunity to develop our communication and collaboration skills.
