Do you or your student wish to build their confidence in speaking publicly and in group settings? This class is a discussion group to improve speaking, communication, and social skills. Students meet weekly to discuss a new episode of Stranger Things starting with Season 1 Episode 1, "The Vanishing of Will Byers." Together students discuss episodes, characters, culture, and society in 80's Hawkins. We look through a dimensional tear; into the cultural and societal themes of that year, 1984, delving into their fashion and the music playing in the headphones of Hawkins students. What was happening in the world? Did the government have technology capable of creating a dimensional tear? Was D&D that popular!? These questions and many more will be answered in this Stranger things Discussion Group. 🧏♀️ Together, we talk about how themes from each episode each week pertain to today's cultural norms and style. ⭕️ How influenced are we by the past? ❓❓Are things that different now? Students are encouraged to watch the episode for that week and review the list of 5 critical thinking questions before class. I will provide weekly prompted questions days before class which allows students time to become familiar with the content. I lead my students through a guided discussion group setting, allowing them to get comfortable speaking confidently and allowing students to elaborate on each other's ideas. Students can attend each week or visit for their favorite episodes- it's up to you. ✨Weekly attendees will receive a 10% discount off of classes. (Parents, please send me a heads up if you're enrolling your student for multiple classes so that this discount can be applied. Discount applied as a refund of 10%). 📚Learning outcomes: 🗣Better group speaking skills 👨👩👦👦Improve Communication Skills 🧠Building Critical Thinking Skills 🌈 80's Era Historical Facts! Learning Goals
Improved communication, critical thinking, group and public speaking skill improvement.
My classes tend to be a combination between lecture style and discussion, and are usually content heavy. Students are encouraged to participate in the discussion related to weekly question prompts about episodes. This is a fun class with historical references to the 80's tied to Stranger Things. This class does have trivia games.
