Class Experience

Students will practice critical thinking and problem solving. They will discuss themes and lessons taught in the books, and use evidence to support their answers. We will relate class topics to real-life scenarios. Students will be able to socialize with others that have a common interest.
Students will need to read each Harry Potter book before the class we discuss topics from that book. The first book should be read before the first class, the second before the second class, etc. After the 7th class, the students will choose a topic from any prior class and will write a page answering the topic question using evidence from the books to support their answers. They can also post topic suggestions for the final class in the online classroom.
Learners will need to read or have read the entire Harry Potter series by the end of camp. Books can be purchased on Amazon as a set or students can find the books at their local library.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will review their written response and provide feedback regarding their writing skills, understanding of the topic, use of evidence, and critical thinking.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
The Harry Potter series contains abuse, death, war, good and evil, and inequality issues. Discussions may revolve around and address these themes.
