In this 5 day camp, students who are excited about the game of chess can meet and learn with other players about the basics of chess strategy, and work on capturing, protection, defense, check and checkmate. Plus fun games along the way!
Class experience
In this 5 day Spring Break camp, students who are recently new to the game of chess (know pieces names and how they move) can meet and learn with other players about the basics of strategy! Special Note: The 55 min class moves quickly and slight use of technology is a part of the experience (clicking on a hyperlink in the Zoom chat). We will have two scheduled challenges where all the skills we learn will be put into action. There will be strategy challenges, mind bending puzzle games, and...
Students will learn the basics of being a great strategic thinker, a more confident chess player and will be able to grasp basic chess terms and concepts. Students will also learn new checkmates by the end of camp.
It is encouraged to have a physical chess board at home, or access to an online chess board because your child will want to play and practice newly learned skills!

For students who are not device savvy, a few moments of parental guidance may be necessary. We use Lichess, an online chess resource to review concepts in a highly dynamic manner. We will use Zoom features in this camp, and use online resources to enhance the experience. If your student is not comfortable with their device or technology, parent assistance will be required. The camp must have at least 6 students for a good experience. Since this is a camp, we will cover a lot in a short amount of time. The learning experience will move at a different pace than my weekly chess classes. If you are looking for a true scholastic experience, a semester class may be ideal.
