In this intermediate chess class, players will learn strategy with an introduction to opening principles, common checkmates, and key tactics.

Class experience

Players will learn how to become more confident with how the pieces move on the board using better openings, learn common checkmates, and basic tactics like the fork, pin, and skewer. They will understand the objective of the game and will not need any assistance with set up or basic terminology, and can know how to checkmate their opponent with confidence.

Class will be offered if class minimum is met, and/or the date will be pushed back by 1 week to allow for more learners to enroll.

For students who are not device savvy, a few minutes (5-10 min) of parental guidance may be necessary. We use Lichess, and I will create, and assign kid accounts, and go over the instructions of how to use this trusted resource in class over the course fo 2 weeks.
No additional devices are required, needed, or expected, but for playing chess, a second tablet is recommended. Note: Lichess works best on desktops or laptops or very new iPads.
