Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
The students will have access to a world map they can download and print out. During class we will locate South Africa on the map and then discuss its location in concerns with Continent, Hemisphere, coastal or land locked. We will also discuss climate, culture, language and food. We will use this information to do a brief comparison to the country the students live in. The students can make a mark on their map after "visiting" South Africa. This can be a one time class if there is a specific country of interest or an ongoing adventure discovering many countries of a number of weeks. In this class we will focus on South Africa, the country I was born and raised in.
Learning Goals
The students will learn the different continents, how seasons are affected by the different hemispheres as well as gain insight into different cultures to foster a better understanding of the world.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Good Day, I am pleased to introduce myself. I am a native English Speaker from South Africa living in the USA and a world traveler, (I have lived in or visited over 70 countries), with a wide range of teaching and life experiences. I have a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Education and over 6 years teaching in that field. I spent 3 years teaching ESL to K-12 students in Seoul, Korea, (where I also earned my 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo), and a further 2 years teaching ESL in other locations around the world. I also spent a year teaching refugees from Somalia and Bhutan in Seattle at the Refugee Center. For the past 5 years I have taught online ESL classes to children in China and for the last year have tutored English reading and conversation via zoom. I have a love of world cultures and travel and I certified as a PADI scuba instructor in 2015. I look forward to meeting you in the classroom and exploring the world.
