US Grade 6 - 9
This is the first in a course of six lessons on prefixes and suffixes. Each class is thirty minutes long and will follow the same structure. I will start with defining “prefix” or “suffix”, depending on the lesson, and introduce the concepts with examples of prefixes and suffixes. I will introduce the prefix “sub” and ask the students what this means. I will give the definitions of what “sub” means with some examples and go through their meanings with the learners. I will ask the learners for more examples. I will ask the learners what their examples mean. We will look at the mood or the feeling that the prefix “sub” sometimes gives, for example the word “subhuman” holds negative connotations. I will then give homework for learners to write a short story or a series of sentences using words with the “sub” prefix.
