Does your child know about the civilization commonly accepted as the first in world history? Many students have little prior knowledge of Ancient China. This interactive overview is a perfect introduction to this civilization. In this class, Mrs. Rebecca will facilitate rich discussions with your child about a society they have never experienced. We will explore geography, religion, society, and more! Students will leave this lesson with a small taste of how differently their lives would have been, had they lived in this region 4,000 years ago. Throughout this Powerpoint, students will be presented with information, along with some questions to help them develop personal connections about the civilization. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to read texts, answer questions, and participate in discussion. Covered topics are as follows: - Evaluating a map of ancient China - Analyze the influence of geographic features - Explain how China's geography helped create a unique, yet diverse cultural identity that was isolated from the rest of the world - Describe how the size of ancient China made governing difficult - Understand how the concepts of the mandate of heaven and Legalism emerged - Confucius - The Analects - The first Chinese empire: Qin Dynasty - Confucianism and the Han Dynasty - Understand major accomplishments from the Han Dynasty - Describe the desire for Chinese goods and the creation of the Silk Road - introduction of Buddhism into Ancient China

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a teacher who has taught this topic for a number of years in schools, I have done a great deal of research on this topic. I also created the PowerPoint that I will be using with the students in my classes. Most of my research has come from the following three resources: www.ushistory.org, Khan Academy, and McDougal Littell World History Patterns of Interaction.
This civilization will be presented with a high level of respect. I am very honored to teach your students about these amazing people and civilizations from the past.
We will discuss religion, but ONLY as it pertains to history. I will facilitate all discussions in a way that will equally include students of all religious backgrounds.
