Class Experience

Have you always wanted to learn more about your family history? Do you have a mystery in your family you would like help trying to solve? Do you want to learn how to research your ancestry and better understand which records are available? In this one-time class students will work on one one with me to research online records to try to find their ancestry further back. The student will improve their research skills while working with primary and secondary online sources. 
The student will understand the difference between primary and secondary sources.
The student will understand bias and how to discern the truth in the sources.

I am a middle school history teacher and have been teaching for 15 years. I have been doing my own family history for 25 years and I was the leader of my school's family history club this last year. I have been doing family tree projects with my students for 15 years as well.

1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

When researching family history, we never know what information we will find. I try to teach the students to take the good with the bad as all those experiences helped shape them into the person they are.
