I had the privilege of living in Yellowstone for a summer and would love to share this amazing park with my learners! Yellowstone is the first National Park in the World and it is so large it expands 4 states. There is so much beauty to discover! Yellowstone also has a unique geothermal features making it a great place to study geology. There is also an abundance of wildlife and much to learn about the animals and their habitats. In this 4 day class we will will explore the Yellowstone National Park with amazing photos, videos, and educational activities, as we learn about the geology, animals, habitats, ecosystems and history of the Park. Each class will include a presentation where students can see and hear what it would be like to actually be in the park. I will include time for discussion and learners are encouraged to share their experiences. I have educational/scientific activities to enhance what students have learned and optional activities for extension of learning after each class. Day 1: I will introduce the class to Yellowstone and we will learn why National Parks are so important. In this first class we will learn about the Park's explosive past and explore the unique hydrothermal features of the park: geysers, hot springs, and we will learn how to predict when Old Faithful will erupt again. The class will do the math together and then watch the eruption! Day 2: Geology: We will continue to explore the unique features of the park and learn about Yellowstone's dragons! We will discover two more hydrothermal features! Then I will introduce my favorite animal of the park. Day 3: Animals. In this class we will learn about the animals of Yellowstone, bears, bison, mountain lions, moose, wolves, foxes and more. We will discuss bear and bison safety in the park and how people can safely visit the park while respecting this is the animal's home. We will learn how animals adapt to their environment, and how to track and identify which animal has been here. Day 4: In our last class we will learn about the history of the park and the native tribes. We will learn about what is being done about the conservation of the Park and how will all can help. We will explore the fun things you can do at the park and I will also introduce the junior ranger program for visiting the park or online.
