Come and join us for this 7 week class where we will take a look at the magnificent Niagara Falls, the history of the area, what it has been used for, why do people try to go over it, and more!

Waterfalls have always fascinated people. From their majestic beauty and power to the daredevils that attempt to go over them. The Niagara Falls have long been a source of power, food, and entertainment.

In this 7 week class, we will learn: 

Class 1 - Geography - How were the falls made? What is the land around it like? 
Class 2 - History of different groups of Indigenous Peoples who lived near the falls. 
Class 3 - Who were the first Europeans to see the falls? Who bought Goat Island and built the town?
Class 4 - Who tried building a bridge over the falls and why did they fail? How did it connect the U.S. and Canada? 
Class 5 - Who were some of the people who tried to walk over the falls on a tightrope or go over in a barrel and why did they do it?
Class 6 - Waterwheels, Tesla, and Edison - using the falls for power and the founding of the Niagara Falls Hydraulic Power and Manufacturing Company 
Class 7 - A look at different tourist draws to the falls and different trivia. We will play a Kahoot trivia game to close out the class. 


Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) -

-I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page.  
-  Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. 
- In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. 
- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
-I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
- Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic. 
-Please message me before the start of class if you have any questions.

Parental Guidance
This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play. During week 2, learners will be directed to 2 different sites - Niagara's Indigenous Legacy and Native Land Digital. They will not need passwords for these sites and there is no information collected.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions.
