45 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this class, we will discover new music every week! This class gives students who love rock and alternative music a chance to socialize with other students who share their love for the genres, as well as learn about other styles of rock music, different artists, and learn about active listening. Active listening involves learning to identify and listen for different instruments, tone, and style, and themes used in the music. How will class be taught? ⭐️We will listen in class together! Then, we will discuss the elements and themes in the music. ⭐️High emphasis on group discussion! Students will get to share their thoughts, opinions, and observations about the music and learn to think critically about the music we are listening to. ⭐️I'm a guitarist, so I may play my instrument in class to highlight song examples! ⭐️We will discuss the overarching influence that the artist(s) have had on a certain genre, historical significance (if applicable), compare and contrast with similar styles of music, etc. 🎸About the teacher As a college educated musician and guitarist, I use my skills to help students gain a greater appreciation for the music that we listen to, by sharing insight that I've learned from studying, playing, and listening to lots of music over the years. My skills as a musician do help me to facilitate discussions in a unique way, but you certainly don't have to be a musician to join this club! While playing an instrument is great, this class is geared towards all students who love music! You don't need to play an instrument to learn to listen critically and love music!
Learning Goals
To have fun and listen to cool music! Develop active listening skills and be able to understand and appreciate music on a deeper level, beyond that of a casual listener.

Parental Guidance
I will do my best to select music that is age appropriate; however, I encourage parents to use their own discretion. I understand that parents may have different degrees of comfort concerning language and themes in music, so for any parents who may have concerns, I recommend following up with your learner after class to approve the artists we are listening to, if that is a point of concern. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
Supply List
Students need to have access to a music streaming service, such as Youtube, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. to be able to listen to the music each week. Students are expected to listen to the music BEFORE coming to class.
