Are you a high school student looking to explore new cultures and perspectives through literature? Join our weekly Latin American Poetry & Short Story Book Club, led by a bilingual instructor who lived in Latin America for 8 years! Each week, we'll read selected poems or a short story by a different celebrated Latin American author, then gather online for a lively group discussion. You'll have the chance to share your thoughts, questions, and creative responses with fellow teen readers who love literature as much as you do. Through our readings and chats, we'll explore how these authors use language, symbolism, and storytelling to illuminate diverse Latin American experiences and identities. We'll touch on themes like belonging, family, politics, magic, and more, and how they connect to our own lives. As someone who is passionate about Latin American culture and literature, I can't wait to dig into these stories with you, providing cultural context and discussion questions while letting your insights drive our conversations. We'll cover a variety of authors, styles, time periods, and countries, so you're sure to discover some new favorites. Whether you're a long-time fan of Latin American literature or brand new to it, all are welcome. The only requirement is an open, curious mind and a desire to connect with others through the power of stories! Week of March 10th: Describing the Universal: Reading the Poetry of César Vallejo Week of March 17th: Magical Realities: The Short Stories of Jorge Luis Borges Week of March 24th: Love, Passion, and Politics: Exploring the Poetry of Pablo Neruda Week of March 31st: Eduardo Galeano: Storytelling and Forgotten Histories

Master's Degree in Public Health from Columbia University
I lived in diverse parts of Latin America for 8 years, and I'm passionate about sharing short stories and poetry as a way to connect cultures and our shared universal experience. I have a Master's Degree from Columbia University, and I'm a creative writer, teacher, and scientist. I love creating meaningful, creative, and open spaces of discourses where students can share their own experiences and engage with new ones.
