Welcome! In this class students will discuss and critically examine the Latin meanings and "pseudo-Latin" meanings behind the SPELLS used in the Harry Potter books. This is meant to be a fun adventure to figure out the deeper meaning underneath the names of spells that J.K. Rowling chose to use in the books. I am fascinated by the Greco-Roman world; its history, literature, culture, and languages. I have an M.A. in Classics and have taught Roman history, as well as other Classics related subjects, to a range of ages and skill levels online and in a traditional classroom. This course is meant to be fun! I have read the Harry Potter series more times than I can count, so I thought it would be fun to combine my two passions into this exciting class that explores the world of Harry Potter through classics.
