In this one-time class students will discuss and critically examine Harry Potter character names and magical creatures throughout the Harry Potter series that were influenced by ancient Greek and Roman myths.

Welcome to Harry Potter Latin! In this class students will discuss and critically examine Harry Potter select character names and magical creatures throughout the Harry Potter books. This is meant to be a fun adventure to figure out the deeper meaning underneath the names of characters and the origin of magical creatures that J.K. Rowling chose to use in the books. Students will learn the etymology of Latin and Ancient Greek that is used in Harry Potter and related English words. They will also learn how Classical mythology deeply influenced the Harry Potter series through the influence of mythological creatures.
I love Latin and the Greco-Roman world. I also have many years of experience teaching Ancient History and Latin to a range of ages and skills levels online and in a traditional classroom. I believe that learning should be a fun and engaging journey!
