Welcome to Harry Potter Latin! In this class students will discuss and critically examine Harry Potter select character names and magical creatures throughout the Harry Potter books. This is meant to be a fun adventure to figure out the deeper meaning underneath the names of characters and the origin of magical creatures that J.K. Rowling chose to use in the books. In order to fully understand the meaning of character names and the origins of magical creatures, students will learn about the relationship between ancient mythical creatures from around the world and the magical creatures we meet in Harry Potter. In addition, students will discuss and analyze some of the character names to understand the influence that Greek and Roman mythology had upon Harry Potter characters. There are NO spoilers! ALL Harry Potter classes can be taken in any order!
Learning Goals
