Class Experience

Games + Candy + Pop Its = Fun Math

In this class students will learn first grade math skills including addition, subtraction, and counting within 100.  

This course will explore these topics in 6 weeks.  We will make it fun by using a bubble pop fidget and other manipulative to learn the fundamental concepts of addition, subtraction, and counting within 100.  

Students will learn addition using multiple strategies for solving the problems including the number line, tally marks, using objects, and the commutative property

Week 1- Counting by 1s, 2s, and 5s within 100
Week 2- Counting by 3s to 36 and 10s within 100
Week 3- Addition within 10
Week 4- Addition within 20
Week 5- Subtraction with numbers up to 10
Week 6- Subtraction with numbers up to 20

Weekly Lessons: 
Each week I will provide videos on the weekly subject matter explaining how students can solve problems using multiple strategies.    

I will also provide videos each week that shows how they can solve problems using a bubble pop fidget.

Interaction in this Class:
Students will receive links to virtual games that they can play to help with that week's concepts.

Each week students will receive worksheets with math problems that they will turn in to the teacher by the end of the week.  The teacher will check and provide feedback on these worksheets.  

Supplies:
Students can use manipulative from around the house.  The teacher uses candy in class and they are welcome to use candy, beans, rice, pennies, or any similar small object.  

Students can use a bubble pop fidget if they have one.  If they don’t have one, it is not required.  I have included a link to the one that I recommend in the supply list below.  If you would like to use a fidget worksheet, one will be provided in the classroom.
