Students will learn what DNA is, its function and basic structure.
I am a science communicator of 20 years with experience teaching science concepts to children and performing experiments for demonstration purposes.
0Students are welcome to just watch me perform the experiment. If they want to participate they will need the following: 1. 3 fresh strawberries and/or half a banana chopped up small. 2. Liquid Dish Soap 3. Salt 4. 70% Rubbing Alcohol (available at the chemist) or methylated spirit (available at the hardware store) that has been stored in The FREEZER for at least 3 hours. I have had better success with the latter. 5. A Ziplock Bag 6. A Bowl 7. Measuring Cups and Spoons 8. Large Glass 9. A Toothpick or Skewer 10. A Funnel 11. A Strainer 12. A pipette, eye dropper, small syringe or similar 13. A very small glass, like a shot glass or smaller 14. Protective gear- Goggles, Gloves, Apron or Lab Coat
If children are doing the experiment with me, an adult should be nearby to supervise the use of rubbing alcohol or methylated spirit.
