Class Experience
So you want to be a movie director? Awesome! "Let's do this..." as so many action movies say... We'll start by getting to know where you are in your exploration of film and television, especially your interests, strengths, challenges, available equipment, and resources (highly recommended that most of this is done before the start of class via the Outschool messaging system). Since this is a 1:1 individual intensive class, we'll focus on the type of show that you want to create, then do deep dives into topics of your choice that may include (but are certainly not limited to) -- - Crafting a compelling story before, during, and after the shoot - The differences between a film director and a television showrunner - What equipment you should try to upgrade (and what you can throw together in minutes) - Framing the shot and the importance of controlling light - Yes, you should slate every shot, and here's why - Set etiquette and how to run a healthy film set - How to direct actors and manage your crew - Coverage, coverage, coverage, and birds - Editing tips and tricks - Can you really "fix it in post?" - Pre-production: Planning your shoot makes all the difference - Post-production: It's far more complicated than you think - The realities of film distribution today This class is intended for the dedicated film student who has already made some short films, but all levels of experience are welcome!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have directed television shows ("Manos: The Debbie Chronicles," "Vintage America with Ginger," and "Hidden Gems") and voiceover actors for audio dramas ("Triune"). As the showrunner for these projects, I am responsible for every detail from pre-production through post-production. I have also been a production manager and production coordinator and worked closely with directors on a number of film and television sets of a wide variety of budgets and sizes, including a $3 million feature film based at Warner Bros ("Bennett's War") and with TV showrunner Tim Kring ("Heroes" on NBC, "Touch" on Fox).
