Direct Instruction for Small Group Foundational Phonics Skills

In each class we work with vowel sounds, segmentation and blending, simple spelling words, phrases and 1-2 sentences. Then we end with reading a decodable text. 

This remedial class provides students with direct instruction to improve their reading skills. Learners will practice what they learn in a fun, and encouraging learning environment. 

Background knowledge needed to succeed in this class:
*Know the alphabet
*Familiarity with the primary 5 vowels
*Familiarity with CVC and CVCe  patterns 

This session is geared to provide phonemic awareness and spelling support to students who struggle to read. 

I apply the Orton-Gillingham approach to address the reading areas of need in a structured, explicitly taught fun learning environment. Students learn through visual cues, make connections and share in discussions to understand the reading concept.
