Dinosaur Circle Time: A Sing, Rhyme, and Play One-Time Class
Class experience
"Play is one of the most important ways in which young children gain essential knowledge and skills." ~UNICEF, 2018 WHAT IS CIRCLE TIME? Circle Time is a common preschool classroom activity that develops skills and relationships at the same time. Through singing together, stretching, going over the calendar, and sharing books and favorite toys — in English — the teacher and learners get to know and trust each other. Being relaxed and comfortable lowers barriers to learning, such as anxiety...
This class introduces kids to different kinds of dinosaurs — real and imagined — and the concept of fossils.
ESL: Ms. Christina began her career as an English and German teacher in Taiwan. EARLY LITERACY: She worked for seven years in the children's department of a large public library with a focus on Early Literacy and multilingual programming. EDUCATION: Ms. Christina has a Bachelor of Arts degree in INTERNATIONAL POLITICS and GERMAN. She has a Master of Arts degree in INTERNATIONAL STUDIES with a language focus on MANDARIN CHINESE.
Homework Offered
The homework is to read one dinosaur book together with a grownup, then read the book to a pet or a stuffed animal. Bonus for uploading a photo to the classroom message board. During my early literacy training at the public library, I learned an incredible fact: If a grownup reads to a child every day for just 20 minutes — basically one book — the child will hear 1.8 million words in one year. Therefore, Ms. Christina wants each learner to pick a book of their choice, show it during class, then read it together with a grown-up for homework. This can be any book in any language, and it can even be the same book every day. Then reading that book to a pet or stuffed animal gives the child the chance to practice in a stress-free way, and even pretend to be the teacher. How fun! Not only will this daily reading habit expose the learner to an incredible number of words in a year, it will instill in them a lifelong love of reading. With reading being the cornerstone of all subsequent learning, the daily reading habit is the simplest, least expensive way to set your child up for a lifetime of success and joy.Assessments Offered

Learners should bring a shaker (rattle, shaky egg, maraca, or canister with dried rice, beans, or beads inside) and a book they love—any book in any language. They should also wear dinosaur pajamas!
Please be available to "unmute" your learner for their turn to speak, if they cannot "unmute" themselves.
