What's included
1 live meeting
40 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. We will complete the crock pot meal assembly in class. Students will be responsible for the finishing preparations outlined in classroom page. We will talk about sides you might consider for your families tastes to have a balanced meal. This may be creating a simple salad and having ready made dressing, rolls or bread, or rice/potatoes for the meal to be served over.Class Experience
I love my slow cooker! Making a meal, smelling it through the day , and having it ready at dinner time with a few other simple additions is my idea of an easy day! I taught my children very young to be comfortable in the kitchen whether it became their "thing" to cook or not. I believe all children should be given the opportunity to be hands on in the kitchen with the support and backup of mom or dad. We will: Learn a new recipe every week and create a yummy meal for your family. Take from minutes minutes to put together our meal. (Recipe preparation will vary so there may be times there is prep to do before class. You'll be told what that prep will be before hand.) Become more comfortable and confident in the kitchen. We'll talk about what creates a balanced meal. Be responsible for the cleanup after we use the kitchen. We'll finish what we start with some "in classroom" instructions at the end of the day. We will choose to be proud of everything we try! These classes will have 4-6 months of recipes before I begin rotating back through them. Changes will be made here and there as I try a new recipe I love and want to share it. Also, as I rotate back through recipes we'd made, I will pull recipes that were not student favorites and that I've become tired of and replace them with others! A few meals may have a bonus video to teach you to make a side (biscuits, salad, roasted vegies, etc.) which will be posted in class for you to use if you wish. Other meals we make will include us making a side in class. Join us for some delicious recipes that may become new family favorites! I don't take the summer off but instead take time off to be with family at different times through the year. You will always be given notice (scheduled times off are written as No Class in our listed class dates). If I have to cancel class for an emergency, I will always refund you for that week. If you have to miss a class, choose another day to watch our class video and still enjoy cooking that week! I am able to send you the link if you are not able to access it and you are flexible to watch it anytime before the next class! You can also pause the class when you know your family will be on vacation. 2025 April Friday classes 4-Baked Potatoes in the slow cooker and the fixings (including bacon that we'll cook in the oven) 11-French dip sandwiches 18-Creamy chicken over rice 25-Ground beef stew May 2-Breakfast casserole (potatoes, eggs, ham. veggies, cheese all in one pot) 9-Beef Pot roast with veggies 16-Italien sausage chili 22-Garlic and parmesan chicken thighs 29-Kielbasa and BBQ beans June 6-Pork tender loin with apples 13-Beef and Broccoli 20-The Best Mac n cheese (Not low fat! I send them the ingredient list the week before, the recipe the morning of the class for their records, and then the class is recorded at the listed time. **Another option you have is to pause the weeks you know you will not be able to cook. You will not be charged when you are paused! ***With that said there are sometimes extenuating circumstances in which you have no control! If you are in need of a refund in these cases please message me so we can talk!
Learning Goals
Students will become more confident and independent in the kitchen. They will learn about seasonings and spices, basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and more, collecting recipes they can go back to with confidence and cook again.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
You know best if your child is comfortable using the stove top, as well as a knife or other small appliances, (crock pot, etc.). If you or your child are uncomfortable with that, please be available to assist them as needed.
Supply List
The list of all tools and appliances needed will come with the recipe the week prior to class. You will have the recipes a week before we create them.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
My cooking experience began probably around 5 years old. We had 6 kids growing up plus, relatives close in age that were often around for meals. (I never learned to cook in small quantity!) Being the oldest, I always helped in the kitchen and learned to love cooking, canning and baking from a young age. I might say my mom was a great teacher! With our 5 children I felt it important to teacher them from a young age to be confident and knowledgeable in the kitchen, and to enjoy the process.
