Class Experience

Fun and learning is the name of the game in my cooking courses! In this class, students will receive hands on (step by step) instruction for how to prepare BLT stuffed avocados and a refreshing pineapple smoothie.   I will start the class with a specific kitchen gadget that relates to the dish of the day. For this recipe, students will learn cooking terms, measurements and I will demonstrate how to properly use kitchen utensils.  By the end of each class, students will be able to taste their dishes they made. Questions will be asked at end of class to make sure students understand the cooking terms we learned.  I strive to give my students positive reinforcement throughout the class and welcome questions, comments and feedback.   My goal is to have a fun and engaging class, and to give my learners greater confidence when preparing meals for themselves and their families.

Parental Guidance
Safety is of the upmost importance in my cooking courses. This class will require the use of knives and the stove, so It is important that a parent is in close proximity to assist younger learners.

*****Ingredients for Stuffed Avacados
Avocados (3 ripe medium to large sized)
Chicken (strips-precooked from pkg (1c) 
Celery (2 stalks)
Lettuce, any kind
Tomato (1) or cherry tomatoes pack
Bacon (5 strips) Note: (We will be cooking the bacon in class)
Mayonnaise or ranch dressing
Pepper/salt/garlic powder

Pineapple (1 can)
Yogurt (plain)

When food is colorful and appetizing, it just makes for a great presentation to kids.  For the past 5 years, I have been teaching kids culinary classes at Williams Sonoma, a high end kitchen chain store and at numerous after school programs at grade schools in the county of Los Angeles.  My students love to learn the process of preparing a meal from start to finish and I love to see their sense of pride when they see what they have created. My style is very encouraging and I welcome whatever questions they may have. 

On a personal note, I have raised 3 daughters and have taught them how to prepare meals through different stages of their upbringing. To see the fruits of the time spent with them in the kitchen and to now see them cooking on their own as adults, has truly been a great joy. A mothers pride!
