In this one-lesson course, students will be introduced to the (5) digraphs.

Class experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Students will learn how to categorize words based on their digraphs.
Students will learn about the (5) digraphs.
Digraphs teach students how to understand more complex words in their reading and their writing. Through an understanding of digraphs, students are able to more accurately sound out complex words. In Kindergarten, I see students struggle to sound out words with digraphs such as "shark" because they try to sound it out as "sss" "hhh" "aaa" "rrr" "kkk" using the individual letter sounds instead of combining "s" and "h" into the "shhh" sound. They are unable to properly understand the words because they do not understand that the digraph sh- makes its own sound separate from the individual s- and h- sounds.
