Class Experience

Students will learn how to categorize words based on their digraphs.
Students will learn about the (5) digraphs.
Digraphs teach students how to understand more complex words in their reading and their writing. Through an understanding of digraphs, students are able to more accurately sound out complex words. In Kindergarten, I see students struggle to sound out words with digraphs such as "shark" because they try to sound it out as "sss" "hhh" "aaa" "rrr" "kkk" using the individual letter sounds instead of combining "s" and "h" into the "shhh" sound. They are unable to properly understand the words because they do not understand that the digraph sh- makes its own sound separate from the individual s- and h- sounds.

Please consider printing out the attached worksheets so your students can be engaged in the lesson and have materials to practice with after the course is finished.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
observation, kahoot!
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
A google slides presentation and Kahoot! will be posted for students to practice and assess their knowledge. These do not require logins. The google slides presentation will be a simple link to follow and download. The Kahoot! will require a code that I will present and for the student to create a "nickname".
