My Teaching Style: I believe that fostering children's creativity can actually pour over into academic based subjects. When we build students up and give them a sense of independent creativity, we can transfer that into other styles of work as well. I believe in growing and teaching children in the ways that fit them. Through this photo course, I will build upon different skills, and prompt students to apply these skills while still fostering independence and creativity. What will be...
This class is taught in English.
By the end of this course students will have a basic understanding of camera functionality, will understand early photography history, learners will apply photography skills and composition knowledge to create artistic photos, and finally create a final portfolio of their work from over the course of this class.
I currently hold a K-6 Elementary Education License from the State of Wyoming, I did my undergraduate schooling at the University of Wyoming, with a focus in Creative Arts. During my schooling, I spent a great deal of time with Photography, and I am currently one print making course away from having a Minor in Photography. Artistic photography has always been a passion of mine, with my intentional end goal being teaching photography to kiddos!
Homework Offered
Homework by lesson will be assigned in order to practice their new skills, and to begin creating a final portfolio of work. This homework will include using the material and skills from the lesson to create a small weekly portfolio (3-5 images) that will need to be shared with for feedback! Don't forget to save the photos on a local device for your Final Portfolio! Students will venture out to take photos each week as homework, this can take as much time, or as little time as the student would want to spend on their photos for the week. Towards the end of the course, I will have students work on editing and building their final portfolios outside of class, this again can take as much or as little time as possible based on the student!0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will not receive a grade, as this course is purely based on interest of the student. However, students will also receive feedback from me to improve their confidence and ability with the art of photography. At the end of our time, students will have a portfolio of work, about 15-20 photos as their final project, this will have been building over the course of our time together.Grades Offered
A digital camera of sorts, phone, tablet, or camera. Access to a computer or tablet for sharing and editing photos.
For this course we will use an outside internet source called Pixlr. This is a free, no account required basic photo editor. If you wish to purchase the premium version, that is wonderful, but not necessary! Please note: Pixlr does pop-up ads on the side, this is how they are able to remain free. No parental advisories, however students should be open to comments and feedback regarding their work! We also will use a site called AhaSlides, this is how I create my interactive slideshows that house the content for these lessons. This is very similar to Nearpod! Students do not need an account to use these slides and participate.
Students will need access to a digital camera of sorts, this can be a digital camera, a phone, a tablet or any camera the student would feel comfortable using, besides a film camera. Students will learn basics on how to edit photos online, I plan to use the website Pixlr, as there is a free basic version for everyone to use. All other class content is created by me. Students will also need a way to upload and share photos on the OutSchool platform for me to provide feedback!
