Day 5 - Lets Make a Song! TEACHING STYLE: As a former longtime camp counselor and experienced teacher of this class, I have learned that the most important thing this class can provide is the activation of imagination, and to me, this means running this class like a workshop. All learners are invited to share or not share as they please. Learners will find themselves in a very supportive environment, and one that allows them to explore music in their own way, while providing structure in order to build the cognitive building blocks and benefits that come with this special hobby. I understand that my role is not only of a teacher, but of an entertainer, coach, and a role model. STRUCTURE Music making is the art of exploration. The classes will be structured in a way where I teach for a portion, then have the learners explore what I taught them on their own. This sequence will happen multiple times over the course of a class. This is to prevent a rigorous lecture feel, while also not being too laid back to the point where the learner would not learn. All learners are not only welcomed, but encouraged to participate, as this is beneficial to the entire class. Questions from not only the learner, but parents as well are permitted!
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is to unlock creative passageways in the minds of the learners. Music making has immense cognitive benefits and will not only drive the creative process for a learner but give them the opportunity to explore the component-based building process. As president of Music Production Club at University of Delaware, it was no surprise to me that nearly 40% of the clubs' members consisted of engineers including myself. People who embark on the music making journey learn quickly the art of composition, not just in music, but in life.

Parental Guidance
This class requires the download of the program LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio). This is a free digital audio workstation (software where music is made), that is in my opinion, the best free tool out there for music education. I started on LMMS, and so did countless pros. I even know pro level producers that still praise this program as their number one tool.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My expertise: I have a degree in mechanical engineering, was president of the 50 member Music Production Club at University of Delaware, but more important than any of those things, I was a camp counselor for 4 years. This not only taught me how to communicate effectively with learners, but how to develop them, challenge them, and create a stage that they can each excel on.
