In this two week digital drawing class learners will be guided through the process of taking sketches from their sketchbook, bringing them into photoshop and creating digital drawings of their cartoon characters. In this class we will go over pencil sketches, photographing or scanning your sketch, working in layers, paintbrush tools, transparency and alpha channels, colour mode, and file types. Each learner will be welcomed to class and after introductions of self we will introduce the cartoon character we are working with, and talk about our own art practices. In WEEK 1: We will talk about sketching, character design, use of reference materials, and taking photos of our sketches for digitization. In WEEK 2: We will create and name layers to allow us to digitize our sketches and create cartoon characters in photoshop. We will discuss colour usage, various colour line techniques. We will also take a look at background options and what pixel peeping means and how to avoid it. Learners should be comfortable speaking and sharing on camera. This is an intermediate class and therefore a strong understanding or interest in drawing is suggested and learners will want to be familiar with the share screen option in outschool classes.

Learners will come away from this program with a strong understanding of how to digitize their sketches, confidence with photographing sketches, bringing their sketches into photoshop, and understand the tools needed in photoshop to create the digital version of their cartoon characters.
