Class Experience

Digital citizenship refers to the responsible use of technology by anyone who uses computers, the Internet, and digital devices to engage with society on any level. I (Mr. Chicka) have personally sat on the board development committee of digital intelligence for students in the US as an executive and during this time have developed a framework of content used for digital quotient assessments.

This course will focus on seven key concepts:
Digital Empathy
Managing my online surfing
Practicing digital literacy
Practicing digital wellness
Personal Brand awareness - future thinking

As with most of my classes, this will be less lecturing and a series of activities and discussions that punctuate the content with action towards real-life application and behavior change towards online responsibility.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the difference between digital empathy and face to face empathy.
Students will get a broad overview of the Internet as an incredible network of interconnected servers and how it all works together.
Students will discuss the concept of a “digital footprint” as the mark that someone’s web browser leaves on the Internet.
Students will learn that digital literacy is the practice of reading information online and understanding what it means, where it originated, and whether it’s accurate.
Students will discuss the digital divide is the disparity between those who have access to modern digital tools (like computers and the Internet) and those who don’t.
Students will cover examples of digital wellness as the practice of refraining from indulging in the Internet and digital media for unreasonable amounts of time.
Students will understand the fundamentals of device security and why it matters impacts individuals, schools and corporations.
