Digital citizenship refers to the responsible use of technology by anyone who uses computers, the Internet, and digital devices to engage with society on any level. Students will understand the difference between digital empathy and face to face empathy. Students will get a broad overview of the Internet as an incredible network of interconnected servers and how it all works together. Students will discuss the concept of a “digital footprint” as the mark that someone’s web browser leaves on the Internet. Students will learn that digital literacy is the practice of reading information online and understanding what it means, where it originated, and whether it’s accurate. Students will discuss the digital divide is the disparity between those who have access to modern digital tools (like computers and the Internet) and those who don’t. Students will cover examples of digital wellness as the practice of refraining from indulging in the Internet and digital media for unreasonable amounts of time. Students will understand the fundamentals of device security and why it matters impacts individuals, schools and corporations.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
