They say the clothes make the man, but who makes the clothes? Any of us. Fashion design is a fun place to explore the interplay between colors, patterns, and textures. Designers need to find a balance between what looks good, what feels good to the human body, and what a washing machine will tolerate. Getting your designs to look, in real life, how they do in a drawing is a complex feat of physics! Bring your sketches or digital renderings, show them off to the group, answer questions about fabrics and other materials, the functionality of a piece, its position in the apparel market, and start to move your work off the page and onto the catwalk! Then, admire the designs of other Outschoolers and offer suggestions for their work. Each student will be asked to share one design per class, but learners are always welcome to pass. Sharing additional designs will be permitted when time allows. I will also sometimes share my own designs and "design problems" for us to think through.

Parental Guidance
Fashion can get a little freaky. While every student's personal take on modesty will be respected, and I am familiar with many global traditions of dress, it's important to remember that when kids sketch clothing designs, it's a space for imagination. Fashion is, sometimes, offensive, and we will discuss that during class when it's pertinent.
Supply List
I will provide different printable "models" for learners to use in sketching designs, if they want some guidance. Additionally, after each meeting, I will share pertinent resources that can help students enhance or forward their recent designs.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
