Assessment
While there is no formal assessment for this class, students are encouraged to share their work throughout the drawing and painting process, as well as their finished product. This lets me give feedback and offer potential changes to the piece where necessary.

Class Experience

What's even better than drawing a dragon? Doing it in Procreate! In this ongoing weekly course, we will teach our students how to use the Procreate app to create sketches, defined line work, and digital paintings based around the world of Wings of Fire.

There's a lot to learn about Procreate, and each week we'll aim to incorporate a different tool or technique while creating our dragon art, so students will ultimately become familiar with a wide range of different paths for turning the ideas in their heads into finished art pieces. While I conduct classes in a step-by-step structure, I always encourage learners to get creative and really make the work their own.

It's highly recommended that students attend class on a computer or other device that is separate from the iPad they'll be using for drawing. That way, they can see the instruction and the other students without having to repeatedly open and close their art file.

Each week, we focus on a different scene and dragon clan (and will also throw in some fun hybrid variants if the class wants to). The general themes for each class rotate as follows (but please note that in each week we may do a fun hybrid variant depending on the learners' interests)

Week 1 (12/1) : Nightwings perched above a volcano
Week 2 (12/8): Icewing soaring across the mountains
Week 3 (12/15) : Sandwing guarding its eggs
Week 4 (12/22) : Seawing leaping out of the water in the sunshine
Week 5 (12/29) : Raingwing hanging upside down from a tree, eating fruit

To get the most out of our ideas, we will sometimes have two-part classes, so please remember to watch the class recording if you aren't able to make it on a given week. This will help avoid the frustration that can come if a student has to do a lot of catch-up during class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to use a wide range of tools and techniques in the Procreate app, including how best to implement use of brushes, layers, masks, filters, textures, and many more.

We will also learn how to draw dragons from different angles and perspectives, paying special attention to shifts in size and foreshortening, which are skills that can be applied to future art pieces of any subject.

Lastly, we will show students how to use color and lighting to bring their drawings to life, turning a cool sketch into a vibrant scene they can be really proud of.
