What is archaeology? And what do archaeologists do? In this class students will get a brief introduction to science of archaeology. Archaeology has been referred to as the “hand-maiden to history”. Others have asserted that archaeology is “anthropology or it is nothing”. Archaeology is, however, a discipline unto itself. It used a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding the past in ways that historians are unable to. Archaeologists collect data from fieldwork that is used to better understand past people and ultimately our ancestors. In this class students will receive a brief introduction to archaeology as the science of the past.
