Description
Class Experience
In this course, the learner will explore one passage multiple times in order to dig deeper and understand the text in various ways. Session 1: Metacognitive markers & visualization Session 2: Determine what the text says Session 3: Determine how the text says it Session 4: Determine why the text says it Session 5: Comprehension and Higher Order Thinking Questions This session will be taught with discussion and application of the text. Learners will be able to understand how to "mark up the text" and take responsibiltiy for their learning. They will be able to comprehend a text and answer questions while exploring new vocabulary. They will also understand how to determine the main idea of paragraphs, visualization, and summarization of a passage.
Students may be given a different passage for homework to practice each close read session. The homework will take no more than 30 minutes and will be submitted via the classroom page so that the teacher can provide them specific feedback.
The passage will be posted in the classroom page to be printed 24-48 hours prior to the first class session.
Learners will be assessed via the homework and informally during the lesson.
