Class Experience

Book 1 of the Diary of the Minecraft Zombie series is going to be a "creeper" of a good read! This course will run very much like a book club, we will start out discussing the Minecraft game and what the students know about the game. In each class we will read at least 10 pages together, I will read aloud to demonstrate inflection and proper reading strategies, including think-out-loud strategies that students can utilize when they are reading on their own. In each class, the students will also be assigned 10-15 pages to read for homework. At the start of each class, we will review the pages students read for homework and use inference skills to talk about what we think we will read in the future. This course will be full of thinking strategies as well as group discussions to assist with public speaking. Please note that we may start the first class talking about the learner's prior knowledge about Minecraft but we will not focus our time on gameplay or strategy. This is a book club and we will focus on the book and characters we will read about.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a teacher for 19 years, the majority of my time in education has been in English/Language Arts class. Demonstrating proper reading skills and comprehension techniques is one of my passions and strengths. I love teaching book club classes, getting to spend extended time with the students, and reading together is one of my favorite things to do! I do have 3 sons that love the game of Minecraft and I have some general background knowledge from talking to them about the game they love and watching them play. Please note that we may start the first class talking about the learner's prior knowledge about Minecraft but we will not focus our time on gameplay or strategy. This is a book club and we will focus on the book and characters we will read about.
