In this class, we will begin by discussing the physiological process of diabetes. To do this, we will first discuss what the normal anatomy should look like. Then we will compare that to the anatomy of a diabetic person. Students will also learn about the long-term affects on the body, such as cardiovascular disease and PVD. I will be using a few slides as I provide this information. I prefer to use an interactive discussion format. As I am providing information I encourage students to participate and ask questions. There is no prior experience needed to take this class. I will be providing a handout that can either be completed during class or after class. I will be going over it at the end of class. Class length is approximate and may vary depending on student participation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have worked as a nurse in the ICU for the last 20 years. I have taken care of people with a variety of medical issues including diabetes.
During that time, a very large portion of my job was to teach my patients about their disease process, medical treatments and necessary lifestyle changes. My patients have come from both ends of the age spectrum and everywhere in between.
I have also taught kung-fu for more than 10 years. In this, I also taught students from all areas of the spectrum, including teenagers.
