Developing Literacy Skills Through Music
Class experience
Each week students will be engaged in a different literacy skills relevant to the focus of the month! Difficulty will continue to build as the weeks progress into the course following curriculum based pattern. Students will be encouraged to participate in a variety of games, handouts, activities and song creation relevant to the theme of the week in order to build a love and understanding of key literacy skills. Students will work toward developing an understanding of word families, enhance their spelling and reading skills throughout the course. Additionally, students will be challenged with utilizing word families to create their own songs on a weekly basis, through doing so students will develop a strong understanding of word families and utilize music to assist in memory formation.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology, honors specialization in fitness and exercise prescription. Additionally, I have had significant experience teaching preschool and elementary math and literacy skills to children as a traditional and non-traditional educator, both in group and private tutoring settings.
Students will require a pencil and coloured pencils, crayons or markers for each session. Handouts as well as a list of any additional materials will be posted in the days prior to class in the classroom to be printed and brought to class. Each week a message will be posted in classroom with a reminder about the handout(s) for the week as well as if any additional materials are needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
