Class Experience

In this ongoing German conversation class for the intermediate learner (about 2 years+ of German; no German parent; perfect for students who are ready to graduate from my level 1 (Deutsch ist Klasse - Ongoing Conversation for Beginners/ Advanced Beginners - German), we are going to talk mostly in German and practice our German conversational skills.

Also keep in mind that this class is designed for the intermediate learner, i.e. learners with background knowledge of the German language. Students should be able to produce sentences and be able to hold a basic conversation in German.

Class will start with a brief introduction of the students so as to ascertain the learners' level of German skills.
The students are encouraged and expected to interact with each other as well as with the instructor. I am a rather lively teacher and class will therefore be somewhat lively as well :)
I will be sharing cultural aspects of German life as well as German culture and each week will cover another topic:

Subjects will include (accompanied by grammar):
Week of :Art
Music/TV : Shopping

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Foreign Language from Heidelberg University (Institute of Translation and Interpreting) in Heidelberg, Germany
My name is Sibylle Gray; I have four children and a passion for languages, reading, knitting, crocheting, painting, origami, learning about history and other cultures, hiking, fishing, and baking bread and cakes.
I hold a Master's Degree in Linguistics (English, German, Spanish).
I have taught in-class German at private co-ops to children ages five through sixteen and I have been an online ESL (English as a second language) teacher for over 5 years. I also have the 120-hour TEFL/TESOL certification.
Before going to university, I studied nursing and worked at a hospital as an R.N. I also worked on an ambulance for several years in addition to being a volunteer E.M.T. at the German Red Cross and a youth leader at the German Red Cross. I have a passion for the medical field and I enjoy being around other people.
I grew up bilingually and I have always enjoyed languages, history and other cultures. I was able to experience and compare the American and German culture first-hand, from which I have certainly benefited greatly.
Understanding and valuing other cultures are very important, especially in today's age and time. We all need to know more about each other so as to grow together and make the world a better place.
I am a passionate knitter and I am proud to say that my three older children all know how to knit and crochet. I love knitting hats, shawls, scarves, blankets, and many other things. I also love crocheting lace (using thread) and tatting.
I teach English (TEFL, TESOL, ESL) to international students and a few years year ago, one of my students introduced me to "origami". My children and I fell in love with origami and every evening, we get together to do origami.
I also enjoy painting with water colors and acrylics, and I love drawing. My favorite motifs are unicorns as well as kawaii, chibis and manga images.
When I am on the road, at a doctor's office, at the park, and even when we are fishing, you will find me either reading a book or knitting a hat or shawl (which might be the reason I haven't caught anything in a while :).
I would love to get to know your child and introduce him or her to the wonderful world of learning and having fun.
Have a wonderful day,
Miss Sibylle.
