Class Experience

Dear parent, dear participant,

In this ongoing German conversation class for the advanced intermediate learner, we are going to talk mostly German and practice our German conversational skills.

Class will start with a brief introduction of the students, if needed, so as to ascertain the learners' level of German skills.
Please keep in mind that it is a class designed for the advanced intermediate learner of the German language (about 3-4 years of German) and it is not suited for beginners or advanced beginners. I will also ask the students to prep for upcoming classes, so we can actually discuss the topics.
The students are encouraged and expected to interact with each other as well as with the instructor.
My classes are usually quite lively, with lots of interaction and also include grammatical aspects, if needed.
We can talk about current events, daily routines or whatever the students want to talk about during class (while adhering to Outschool's guidelines).

Each week will cover another topic/aspect of a certain topic, which is also subject to change, if needed:

Week of Oct. 24: In the kitchen

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Foreign Language from Heidelberg University (Institute of Translation and Interpreting) in Heidelberg, Germany
My name is Sibylle Gray; I have four children and a passion for languages, reading, knitting, crocheting, painting, origami, learning about history and other cultures, hiking, fishing and baking bread and cakes.
I hold a Master's Degree in Linguistics (English, German, Spanish).
I have taught in-class German at private co-ops to children ages five through sixteen and I have been an online ESL (English as a second language) teacher for over 5years. I also have the 120-hour TEFL/TESOL certification.
Before going to university, I studied nursing and worked at a hospital as an R.N. I also worked on an ambulance for several years in addition to being a volunteer E.M.T. at the German Red Cross and a youth leader at the German Red Cross. I have a passion for the medical field and I enjoy being around other people.
I grew up bilingually and I have always enjoyed languages, history and other cultures. I was able to experience and compare the American and German culture first-hand, from which I have certainly benefited greatly.
Understanding and valuing other cultures are very important, especially in today's age and time. We all need to know more about each other so as to grow together and make the world a better place.
I am a passionate knitter and I am proud to say that my three older children all know how to knit and crochet. I love knitting hats, shawls, scarves, blankets, and many other things. I also love crocheting lace (using thread) and tatting.
I teach English (TEFL, TESOL) to international students and a few years year ago, one of my students introduced me to "origami". My children and I fell in love with origami and every evening, we get together to do origami.
I also enjoy painting with water colors and acrylics and I love drawing. My favorite motifs are unicorns as well as kawaii, chibis and manga images.
When I am on the road, at a doctor's office, at the park and even when we are fishing, you will find me either reading a book or knitting a hat or shawl (which might be the reason I haven't caught anything in a while :).
I would love to get to know your child and introduce him or her to the wonderful world of learning and having fun.
Have a wonderful day,
Miss Sibylle.
