Class Experience

Using a combination of slides, videos, and experiment comparisons, students will get as hands-on as we can with an online class to really explore how to create good scientific experiments. I try to make the information as understandle as possible, while still ensuring the students learn the correct terminology and the correct procedures for science. It will be lecture for the first 30 minutes, with slides given for the science terminology. Then there will be some discussion, and then some hands-on comparisons of real science fair submissions to evaluate whether they are Scientific experiments or merely demonstrations. Then, we will spend the last few minutes brainstorming ideas students have for their own science experiments.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the difference between experiments and demonstrations, how to design controlled experiements with independent and dependent variables. They will learn how to record their data in an organized manner, and how to draw conclusions.
This class will really focus on the steps of the Engineering design process.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas. I live in Alabama and have run a community STEAM learning lab for the last five years. I have developed many courses for the lab, and am ready to take them online. The classes have ranged from 3D printing to US and World History. I also teach German, Pre-algebra and algebra, middle school English, sketching and drawing, and all sorts of science classes. I believe that children need to be involved in their education, not just passive, and that education is fun and hands-on.
