Do you love prints? Do you wish you could design your own fabrics with fun prints? In this 3 week course, students will learn how to make fabric swatches using watercolors. This class is collaborative in nature meaning students will discuss, present and share their ideas with their teacher and peers. Students will learn how to make various prints including animal prints, floral prints and classic prints like (stripes, polka dots, herringbone and more!) Week 1: -Introductions &...
-Students will gain confidence in their watercolor skills -Students will be able to name common prints found on clothing -Students will be introduced to color theory principles -Students will get to design their own textile swatches (pattern surface design)
Week 1 Homework: Complete 3-6 classic swatches in new color ways Week 2 Homework: Complete 3-6 animal print swatches in new color ways Week 3 Homework: N/A
Required Materials: -Paintbrushes both large and small (I use water brushes but regular brushes will be perfect) -Paper 8x10 (watercolor or multi-use that is durable for watercolor) -Masking Tape (the blue or tan color is fine) -Pencil -Ruler (inches) -Eraser (as needed) -Paper towels to clean up messes -Cup or bowl to hold water for the paints -Paint (watercolors or acrylics that can be watered down are perfect) -Paper plate for mixing the paints as needed -Colored pencils -Black tip marker (sharpie or black tip marker is fine)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents may need to be involved with helping to create the swatch areas measuring out the ruler and placing the tape. ***Cancellations and Student No Shows: If your student can't be there, please withdraw your student, or at least contact me prior to class, and I will withdraw them. If you want a make-up class for the one missed, you will need to go back to sign up for another class. I do not make transfers. I apologize for the inconvenience. Communication BEFORE class is key. If you let me know before class starts your student will not be there, they will be withdrawn, and you will not pay for the class.
