Before discovering Outschool, I informally taught art and technology to children between the ages of 8-13. I have also taught in a Montessori school setting and have been a homeschool teacher since 2018. For more than a decade, I was a New York City-based magazine editor and graphic designer. That means, I can write and design visual content for a company website and its various communication platforms (ie. Instagram, Facebook, or Youtube channel). I began my career in print as a reporter for InStyle magazine. For three years, I would research, write, and edit celebrity fashion and beauty articles every day. When I made the switch to online publishing the following year I gained invaluable insight into the world of web design. Three years later I helped launch an award-winning online magazine. As the company's chief research editor of four years, I covered red-carpet events, interviewed industry leaders, and web produced stories on very tight deadlines. The company went on to win several accolades like Adweek's "Reader's Choice of the Year Award for Hottest Lifestyle Magazine," the Webby Award for "Best Website Features and Design," and the Webby Award for "Best Home / Welcome Page." Photography and film were by far my favorite subjects in college. I loved learning about composition, lighting, workflow, video-editing, and post-production processes. I plan to create and touch on these topics in future classes. I attended the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism. As someone that loves to save money, I also minored in Finance. I believe learning should be inviting, engaging, and hands-on. I cannot wait to meet your learner in class.
A laptop or desktop computer per learner is highly recommended. Sadly, smartphones and tablets have limited capabilities. Pencil and paper.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents, please create a Canva account for your learner prior to class. To sign up, visit canva.com. Click "Sign up with e-mail." Create a password If Canva asks what you will be using the program for, you can select "Student" or "Personal Use." You do not need to download anything. You also do not need to sign up for the 30-day trial. We will be working off the free version. Important: As per Outschool policy, adults and children not enrolled in the class are to remain off-camera as much as possible. This is for the safety, privacy, and protection of all learners. If your learner needs hands-on assistance or supervision, please reach out to me before class and I would be happy to assist. Looking forward to meeting your learner in class.
